Sales Tax in Month
The first recorded month of Virginia's two percent State sales tax brought $5,430,640.66 into the State treasury, but the figure is unreliable as an indication of future yields, according to reports reaching the Governor's Office.
In addition, $2,652,962.45 came in from local sales taxes in 90 counties and 33 cities, but State tax officials said these were subject to the same inaccuracies. Not included in the total deposits of $8,083,603.11 was $329,380 retained by the State in registration fees from 65,876 retailers. Checks for taxes representing September sales are still coming in.
