Officers Elected for
Washington Fire Co., Rappk. Rescue Squad
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Rappahannock Rescue Squad held an' election of officers at a joint meeting December 12. Officers in the fire company reelected for another term were Charles Jenkins, presi dent; Gibson Wharton, Chief; Edward Clark, asst, chief; Bertha Armel, sec-treasurer. Jonas Alther was elected to serve as vice president. Reelected as engineers were Charlie Jenkins, Jonas Alther and Ennis Jenkins. Directors are William Estes, Everett Estes and Henry Hudson. In charge of repairs and equipment are Charlie Jenkins and Jonas Alther. Mrs. Bertha Armel was reelected as Captain of Rappahannock Rescue Squad, and appointed as delegates to rep resent the group at the County Fire Association were Clyde Jenkins and Everett Estes. Alternates are Jonas Alther and Jake Smoot.

To Save $50,000
How long would it take for the average Rappahannock County family, earning what it does at the present time, tc build up a $50,000 retirement fund if It puts aside 7 percent of its Income each month? The question is an important one because of,the constantly rising cost of living. What was a sufficient amount of money to retire on 20 years ago is quite Inadequate now, even with social security. It will be more inadequate 20 years hence.
Economists are advising people to look ahead and raise their sights as to how much money they will need for retirement.
At one time the advertisements read: "How I retired on $150 a month." Now the amounts mentioned are at least twice that much.
At the 7 percent rate, the average Rappahannock County family would be saving approx!
