For the whole state, land available for public hunting totaled 3,807,135 acres which figures out to less than one acre for each of the state’s estimated 4 1/2 nillion citizens. It does, however, equal nearly 10 acres apiece for the 385,547 persons licensed t'6 hunt in Virginia.
The acreage per capita ranged f/om 35.83 in Bath! County to zero for some of the | counties in the critical sec- j tions mentioned above. This survey in no way reflects the | use made of areas in the va- i rious counties since hunters j often travel considerable distances to hunt the larger open blocks of land. The survey will be used by (he Commission as a guide in purchasing future hunting | areas which are aimed at pro- 1 viding limited local hunting.
