Carpenter, Sr.
Jesse- Boyd Carpenter, Sr. of Calpeper, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 1967 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1879 in Madison County, son of the late William Joel anc Alma Clore Carpenter of Brightwood.
He" leaves his wife, Mrs. Frances Gardner Carpenter of Culpeper; a daughter, Mrs J. H. Rowell of Fredericksburg; three sons, J. B., jr. and William J. Carpenter of Culpeper, and Joel V. Carpenter of Washington, D. C. Also two brothers, Dr. Delma R. Carpenter of Salem, and Dr. Webster I. Carpenter of Norfolk and one sister, Mrs Annie C. Berry of Madison; ,six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Before coming to Culpeper in 1913, Mr. Carpenter was a merchant in Madison, Brightwood and Raccoon Ford. He was the founder of Central Hardware Co. in Culpeper and had been manager and secre-! tary-treasurer since founding He was a past president oL Virginia Retail Hardware! Asso., and Culpeper Retail Merchants Association, and past president of Culpeper Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Culpeper Lions Club, and of Culpeper Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, honorary steward and Chairman of the Board of Stewards. He was also .vice-president of the Memorial Foundation of Germanna Colonies. Funeral services were held ! at 2 p. m. Friday‘from Culpeper Methodist Church, with!, burial in Fairview Cemetery.
