County Statistics
Dun and Bradstreet, Inc., international business information agency which has been celebrating its 125th Anniversary, has released latest statistics on the business population of Rappahannock County.
Mr. G. L. McCann, district manager of the Baltimore office of D and B, reports that figures obtained by a physical count of the Dun and Bradstreet Reference Book for January, 1967, show that there are 38 retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers locally, as compared with 42 a^year ago.
Founded in 1841 in New York City, the Dun and Bradstreet organization now includes nearly 240 offices in the United States and abroad. The company w a s originally establish ed to collect and report data on merchants on the Western frontier in order to promote trade, and has been gathering financial and credit data on fir rn s of all types ever since. Today, D and B lists nearly three million businesses and their current credit ratings in its Reference Book, which is continually being revised and is published six times a year. Each year, all businesses, regardless of size, are asked to send copies of their financial statements to Dun and Bradstreet, whose reporters collect supplementary facts and profile each business in comprehensive credit reports widely used by suppliers, insurance companies, bankers and service concerns.
