A V ir g i n i a Education Association research study shows that while Virginia has a lower percentage of nondegree teachers than the national average, her rate of increase in the percentage of degree teachers for the past ten years slightly exceeds that of ^the nation as a whole. The VEA study also reveals that Virginia’s percentage of teachers holding the master’s degree is approximately.* half the national average, but that over the past ten years her percentage has increased markedly while the national average has fallen .3 percent. However, the latest figures available from the eleven southern states, show that Vir ginia ranks next to last in the educational level of her teachers.
