The Rappahannock County! Board of Supervise rsj ipproved salary increases forj some county officers, dis-1 mussed dumps and r.oads and rejected a subdivision at the regular meeting held Friday at the courthouse in Washing ton. Increases were approved as follows: Sheriff from . $4800 to $5000, an increase of $200; Deputy Jenkins from $3600 to $3780 an increase of $180; Deputy Lillard f rftm $2800 to $2940 an increase of $140; Stenographer Mrs'. Sally Palmer,from $1800 to $1890 an increase of $90. The county pays one third of these salaries and the state pays two thirds. Commissioner of Revenue from $4700 to $4900 an inxrase of $200; deputy Mrs. Virginia Smith from $3600 to” $3780 an increase of $180; Treasurer from $5250 to $5450 an increase of $200; deputy Mrs. Frances Foster from $3600 to $3780 an increase of $180. There was no change in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s salary but secretary Mrs, Sally Palmer was granted an increase of $90, from $1800 to $1890. These salaries are paid half by the county and half by the state. James" S. Skeens, Resident Fngineer with the Department of Highways, was present to inform the Board that the dual lane of Route 211 as it passes the local high school is projected to go on the side away from the school building qs the Board had requested. He also reported that the Rush River Bridge east of the Town of Washington would.probably be left standing after this portion of Route 211 bypasses the town, and the present highway will no longer be used. Two Sustain Injuries In Traffic Crash
Two persons were slightly injured in a wreck Saturday on Route 522 north of Huntly, According to Trooper J. B. Willis, Robert Lee Williams of Chester Gap operating a 64 Ford ran off the right oi the highway and through a fence. Williams sustained i multiple lacerations over the entire face. James Rot ert Brady of Flint Hill, a passenger in the vehicle, received lacerations of the head.
Williams was charged wftl reckless driving, said the officer.
