Wilderness Hearing
A National Park Service hearing was held last Wednesday in Luray to ascertain opinions on the proposal to establish six wilderness areas in Shenandoah National Park. The proposal is to designate 61,940 acres of jthe Park to wilderness areas which would be preserved for all time in their natural state. Adequate trails would be maintained, but there would be no construction, roads or developments of any kind. The counties in which the I wilderness areas would be ilocated are Page, Albemarle jAugusta, Rappahannock, Madi■ son and Rockingham. Concensus of opinion was that ! the proposed area s either went too far or did not go far enough. Del. D. French Slaughter of Culpeper, who represents Madison, Culpeper and Orange counties, said the proposal would hinder Madison County’s- projected water resources development.
