Thereafter the 160-acre j
park will be open to the public j seven days a weekfrom9a.m. to 5 p.m., according to James J. Geary, director. The Memorial, a non-profit arm of VMI, has developed the park and will operate it with funds from a bpquest to the school by an alumnus, George R. Collins of Charleston, W. Va. The park will recall the heroic charge of VMI cadets at the height of the battle. Admission to the park property with its gun emplacements and scenic lookouts, will be free. A nominal charge (adults 50 cents; under 16, 25 cents) will be made for exhibits and a motion picture in the historic Bushong House which will serve as a visitor center. The 115-member Army band will include its 36-member Soldiers’ Chorus. Theconcert_ will be held in the orchard area through which VMI cadets advanced and will begin at 1:30 p. m. VMI will be represented by Colonel James M. Morgan, Jr. dean of the faculty, who will introduce Marsh. James MacNeil of WSVA-TV, Harrisonburg, will narrate to advance of the cadets. Geary will be master of ceremonies, and the Rev. Lewis O. Dasher, pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church of New Market, will give the invocation.
