Born in Corregidor in 1940, Ann was only eight months old when her parents bundled her up and she and her mother left the island for the United States with the first group of American familes to leave after the outbreak of war. Her father was subsequently captured and held for four years as a prisoner-of-war at Cabanatuan, north of Manila. He lost his life in October, 1944, when unmarked Japanese prison ships transporting P. O.W.’s from the Philippines to Japan were bombed by American forces.
