A colony of bam swallows has established residence at Scuffle Hill, the farm of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Palmer in Harris Hollow, Washington, These birds build odd nests in the eaves or on rafters in barns with small pellets of moist mud held together with bits of grass or straw. They line them with feathers and settle down to rearing a family. Some of the babies can be seen in the nest opening. The swallow population was greatly decreased at one time because milliners used their feathers for hats.
