Feeder Calf Sale
Brings $139.59 Avg.
Rappahannock Angus Breeders again had a successful feeder calf sale. On October 15th at Front Royal Livestock Market a total of 1152 feeder calves sold for an average: of $29.61 per cwt, $139.59 per head, and a total $180,807.67.
While the 54 yearlings weighing 596 lbs. per head averaged $144.95 Total receipts of the sale was $188,634.75.
The top priced individual calf was a Fancy Steer weighing 490 lbs. that brought 38 3/4cents per pound. This calf was consigned by Ray Cannon of Castleton. It was bought by a Mr. Brown of Maryland.
The top priced pen consisting of ”32 head of good grade calves fetched 35 lA cent a pound and averaged 388 pounds. They went to a Mr. Yoder of Penna.
Buyers were from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Ohio.

Luray Gets Contract
On Work in Park
The National Park Service of the Interior Department is awarding a contract to Baughan Construction Company of Luray, Virginia for $11,835 for work to be done in Shenandoah National Park in Page and Rappahannock Counties, the office of U. S. Sen. William B. Spong, Jr., announced today. The work will concern bridge slope protection at Thornton Gap and will involve the use of either 1,000 sq. yds. of pre-cast concrete block slope revetment or 1,000 sq. yds. of re-inforced concrete slab and 170 iinear feet of re-inforced concrete gutter. The funds will also cover the costs of sight preparation, excavation and clean-up afterward.
