Tops 100,000 Mark

On Friday, September 27,1968 at 4:30 p.m., the Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Company installed its 100,000th telephone in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Finlayson II, 120 Georgetown Road in Charlottesville. Mr. Finlayson is a 1st year law student at the University of Virginia and is from Atlanta, Georgia.

There are 35 telephone companies in Virginia, of which Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Company is the second largest company, operating 39 exchanges in the State. The Northern Virginia District includes Front Royal, Washington, Va., Luray, Stanley and Shenandoah exchanges operating in Rappahannock Page & Warren Counties.

Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Company reached their 75,000th telephone in May of 1964 and hit 50,000 in April of 1958. The 100,000th telephone is a touch calling instrument and was made by Stromberg Carlson in the plant here in Charlottesville.

The Division Headquarters is located in Charlottesville, with Mr. D. H. Reid as Vice President and Division Manager of the Company.__
