Hie statue of Kamehameha I is i great story, in fact that entire story of the line of rulers it fascinating. This statue ia a replica of the original. It stands outside Aliiolana Hall across King Street from the Palace. We were told that another replica of this statue is being made to be sent to Washington, D. C.
We closed this eventful day with a dinner at the Pagoda Restaurant known as a floating restaurant. It was just beautiful. We had a Sukiyaki dinner which 1 took and liked some of it. We could have had an American dinner which some took. We had chopsticks as well as silver by our plates.
The Lotus Blossom Pool surrounding the Pagoda is filled with more than 2000 gold, blue, silver, red, yellow and mixed colored Nishiki Carp. They are called “Koi”. Some are worth as much as $1000 to $5000 each. The Japanese have had these fish as a symbol of good luck. The entire collection here is worth more than $70,000. We were there at their feeding time. At that time a whistle is blown and it is a spectacular sight to see those fish rushing and gathering in one place to be fed. Swans were also swimming around us. One swan went to his eating trough and would take a piece of lettuce and wash it before eating it. The guide didn’t have an easy time getting us together there for our bus.
