The annual Rappahannock County Fire School held each year in October is scheduled for next week, beginning Monday, October 6 and continuing through Friday the 10th. Classes will be held each evening from 7 until 10 p.m. at Amissville fire hall and carnival grounds. The five classes to be studied are forcible entry and small tools, pumps, breathing apparatus, structural fires and ventilation. The school will be concluded Friday night with the awarding of certificates to those completing the course.

Barley Included in
1970 Grain Program
Farmers now have assurance that barley will be included in the 1970 feed grain program along with grain sorghum and corn, according to the Chairman of the State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee, James S. Gillespie.
He said the decision to include barley in the program was made by the U. S. Department of Agriculture after the latest crop report indicated a new record national average yield of 44.4 bushels per acre.
“That projected yield indicates the 1969 barley crop will be about 416 million bushels. Adding carryover stocks, it looks as if the total supply for the 12 months from July 1969 through June 1970 will be 624 million bushels of barley, considerably over what will probably be used,” the ASC Committee Chairman said. In the 1968-69 marketing year total barley utilization was 368 million bushels.
Other provisions of the 1970 feed grain program are expected to be announced soon, according to Mr. Gillespie, who explained the decision to include barley in the program was announced ahead of other provisions because barley is planted in the fall in several States. Barley was included in the 1969 feed grain program, but not in the 1968 and 1967 programs.
