: Banner Year for Fall Color* in Park

| I'his will be a banner year for fall colors in Shenandoah National Park, p r o p h e s ied Superintendent R. Taylor 1 Hoskins, 'lbe weatherhas been i excellent and about 15C of the | trees now evidence some color | transition.

According to experts, warm |days and cool nights without I frost provide the right chemistry

j to produce the best colors. Sharp frost stops the reaction, causing

) the leaves to turn brown and flutter away. Fortunately, no frost has been experienced anywhere in Shenandoah yet this fall, and the October colors should be outstanding

Skyline Drive is open 24 hours a day, every day, and most visitor-use facilities in the Park and the surrounding areas remain open every day throughout the fall season, said Hoskins. Park visitors are encouraged to plan week day trips during good weather and to avoid the large weekend crowds. A relaxed mid-week visit can be1 much more pleasant than fighting traffic and possibly encountering rain or fog.
