Saturday, April 4 from 5 until 9 p.m. The menu will satisfy both the palate and pocketbook, enhanced with all the extras including those homemade goodies that make dessert and coffee taste so good. The price will be $2.00 for all adults and $1.00 for children under 12, and the meal will be served at the Amissville Fire Hall. The Ruritans extended their hearty thanks to the Young People of the Methodist Church for their preparation and serving the meeting dinner. An experienced member who has traveled the ulcer path from banquet to banquet stressed the fact that the Amissville Ruritans are served the best meals in a two zone area. So the club feels particularly grateful and indebted not only to the Methodist Young People but also to the Baptist WMU, the Firemen’s Auxiliary and the Homemakers Club,

Custodian Honored for Dedicated Service
Clabert E. Smoot of Washington, Va., who has been custodian of Nottingham Elementary School in Alexandria for the past ten years, was honored recently for his dedicated service. The 600 students and teachers of the school made Friday, March 13 a day he will not soon forget. It was officially designated “Smoot Day.”
Mr. Smoot was honored with a special assembly and was presented a check for $120, collected from the sale of baked goods after school. Students organized volunteer work details to help throughout the day and presented him with a hand engraved scroll of appreciation for his cheerful manner, ever-present helping hand and friendliness. He was also given a three layer decorated cake and a Smoot menu was established for the day. Ceremonies also Included a rendition of an original song “A Salute to Smoot.” Clever and ornate decorations, poems and other original works were put on the bulletin boards and Mr. Smoot commutes from his home each day. He plans to use his generous gift from the school for a garden tractor for use on his small farm here.
