Kenya haa a meet varied topography. There are areas of semi-desert, lush farm lands, a snow-capped peak, barren volcanic mountains, hills and mountains covered with forest, and great grassy plains, dominated by the thorn tree, a distinctive feature of the arid and semi-arid landscape.
Less than twenty percent of Kenya's land mass is arable, but this supports great coffee and tea plantations. Sisal and pyrethrum have been important export crops up to the present time. Now, however, artificial chemical products have pushed both sisal and pyrethrum off the world market, a great blow to marginal African farmers.
