Rappahannock County streams have been stocked with brook nd rainbow trout in readiness for the opening of the trout fishing season at 12 o’clock noon on Saturday, April 4. About 4,500 fish have been put in the Rush River, North Fork of the Thornton River, Piney Branch and Hughes River. Stocking of the trout which average 12 inches with some up to 16 inches took place early in March.
Regulations are the same as in the past on these streams. 12 noon starting time, any type of bait is legal, attached td a single hook, on a single line. Treble hooks are legal only if they are part of a manufactured lure, such as a spinner. The daily limit is 8 with no size limit. It is illegal to fish in trout stocked waters after obtaining the daily creel limit.
In neighboring Madison Coupty the Rose, Robinson and Hughes Riven and Garth Run have been stocked and are subject to the same regulations as Rappahannock County streams. These streams were also stocked with Rainbow and Brooks.
License requirements on all trout stocked streams are a county or state resident license or non-resident state license plus a special trout license. A three day trip license is not valid in trout stocked watem. Anyone who wishes to fish in the Park only
