Amissville Area
Has Two Break-Ins
Two business establishments in Amissville were burglarized last week with the total loss estimated about $265. Vandals entered Hackley’s Store and Bel Air Restaurant between 10 p.m. Thursday night and 7 a.m. Friday. At Hackley’s a lock was pried off of a side door to gain entrance and at the restaurant a back door lock was pried open. Six or eight pair of khaki trousers, 30 cartons of cigarettes and about $15 in change was missing from Hackleys as well as could be ascertained. In a general store with a large variety of stock it is difficult to tell exactly. However the loss was figured at $115. From Bel Air a 21 inch portable Zenith television, a clock radio and a quantity of beer were taken with total value estimated at $150. Trooper W. A. Buntin and Sheriff Charles Estes investigated the break-ins.
Senior 4-H Contest
Winners Named
The Senior 4-H Club held a demonstration and illustrated contest at the Flint Hill Fire Hall. Those receiving blue ribbon awards were Charla Sisk. (Making a Patach Quilt Salad), Ricky Gore (Soil Eroison) and Susan Dodson (Citizenship Through 4-H). Red awards went to Cil Davis (Horse Hooves) and John Paul Dodson (Cleaning Shotguns). These 4-H’ers will go to Madison on April 11 to participate in the district contests with other youngsters from fifteen Northern Virginia counties. /

Sculpture Shown
Every two years the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond presents the Virginia Crafts Biennial at which time artists selected from across the state exhibit pieces of their work. The exhibit this opened March 27 and will continue for approximately three weeks. The exhibit includes 56 pieces produced by 37 artists selected from about 500 considered.
Larry Hackley of Amissville is one of the exhibitors. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hackley and is a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond where he is majoring in sculpture. Two pieces of his work, handbuilt lustered stoneware, were chosen for the display.
Earlier this year, Mr. Hackley received an honorable mention award for his works exhibited in the Newman Art Show held in Richmond.
