consisted of three deaf mutes, unable to communicate by radio, who made their living by fishing. Their families and friends in their home port had alerted the Coast Guard when their boat did not come home at the end of the day. Wood and his shipmates did their good deed for the day by towing the fishermen home.
Fireman Apprentice Wood expects to remain with the STEADFAST until he receives promotion to Fireman • an accomplishment requiring effort of several months after which he plans to apply for admission to the Coast Guard’s school of Engineering at Yorktown, Va. The home port of his ship is at St. Petersburg, Florida. Friends in Rappahannock County will be interested to know that Burrell Wood attends a church in St. Petersburg that is served by the Rev. and Mrs. Marion E. Sliger who lived in the county and served Baptist churches here in the early fifties. Wood has been a frequent visitor in the home and church of Rev. and Mrs. Sliger and their son, Lester.
