State County
License Sales Lag
The sale of 1970 Virginia state license plates in Rappahannock County is running behind the same sales period last year, according to license agent, Wilson Burke in Sperryville. He urges anyone purchasing tags to be sure and have the application card filled out before presenting it to the agent.
Indications are that the remaining 15 days of tag sales will be extremely heavy and the public is asked to secure tags as soon as possible to avoid a last minute rush. Midnight April 15 is the deadline for displaying 1969 tags, and no extension is allowed. State tags are purchased in Rappahannock County at Sperryville Comer Store and hours are daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. There is ample parking at the rear of the store. Rappahannock County auto tag sales are also running behind, said Robert L. Brown, Treasurer, who handles this. A windshield sticker is being used in this county this year for the first time. Sales stood at slightly over 400 as of Monday. Before county tags can be purchased, personal property taxes must be paid and declaration of personal property for 1969 must be made with the Commissioner of Revenue, Mrs. Roberta Spalding. She will stamp the registration card signifying this has been done.
