At church Sunday the preacher asked the congregation to meditate and pray. To me meditation is to pick out a subject and ‘think it through’, to pry into all its various possibilities, to wring it dry. I’m afraid I was doing more meditating than praying.
He read from Matthew 16 and Jesus was asking His deciples what the general public was saying about Him. “Well, (someone replied) some are saying that you are Elijah, some Jeremiah or one of the other greater prophets.” Of course the conversation didn’t end there, neither did my train of thought. I wonder why people can read this divine revelation and completely ignore its implications.
Permit me to assume that I am Peter, and am talking to the Master. “Some people say You are a reincarnation of Elijah, but John the Baptist was Elijah. Some say You are John the Baptist, but that couldn’t be, since he is just a few years older than you and you were with us before he was beheaded. You might be the reincarnation of the Prophet Buddha, Your teachings are similiar. But, Master, whatever your past lives have been You are now a Son of God, You have attaihed Sonship with the Father.” , I hope you will not think that any sacrilege is intended. Christ said He had lived long before His manifestation on earth. He didn’t deny that He had lived'as one of the prophets mentioned. It is stated in the Holy Writ that we would have the power to become sons of God. That is a promise, but it does not state how long a process it will take. It might be a good idea to start now - “The bird of time has but a little time to fly And lo! the bird is1 on the wing.”
