Mrs. Davis To Be
Library Speaker
Mrs. George H. Davis, Jr. will speak about “Peru” on Friday evening, June 26, 1970, at 8 p.m. at the Rappahannock Library, on Gay Street in Washington. Mrs. Davis was in Peru in February of this year, and her special interest is the ancient city of Machu Picchu, its history and architecture, its earthwork and stonework. As she points out, the Inca’s great stone buildings were earthquake proof. In the earthquake of 1957, the modem buildings constructed on top of the old Inca remains collapsed, but the old Inca buildings themselves remained intact. Mrs. Davis will show her own slides, those of Mrs. C. E. Johnson, and those of Mrs. V. John Lyle. Mrs. Lyle, who is an amateur archeologist, has had much experience in Peru. She will exhibit Peruvian jewelry, ceramics, and textiles, and will be happy to answer questions from the audience after Mrs. Davis speaks.
Since Peru was so recently the scene of devastating earthquakes, the Library feels this evening will be timely as well as informative and entertaining. We are very "much pleased that Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Lyle have agreed to bring us an evening on Peru. Everyone is welcome to join us Friday, June 26. There is no admission charge.
