Door-to-Door Solicitations
A new bill was passed by the 1970 Virginia General Assembly and will become effective June 26, 1970. This bill protects you. the consumer, against high pressure door-to-door salesman by permitting you within 72 hours to cancel a sales contract dgned in your home. The bill doss not include farm equipment, nor a sale where the seller has an established place of business in the state within 75 miles of where the sale is made.
ttow can you cancel an agreement? You must notify the sellar in writing, at the address shown on the contract. It must be in the mailbox by midnight of the third business day after the day you sign this contract. Although the law does not so state, it would be advisable to send by certified mail, return receipt requested.
If you gave the seller any money or anything as a trade-in, will you get it back? Yes, within 10 days the seller must return to you any money or any written promise to ply which you gave to him. He must also return in as good a condition as when you gave It, anything you gave him as a trade-in. If he cannot give you back the item traded in, he must give you its trade-in value.
