Local 4*H*ers Tour
Naval Academy
Last Friday, 112 4-H’ers, parents and friends toured the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Some points of interest seen were the Field House, Bancroft Hall which houses all 4,000 midshipmen and the bronze stature of Tecumseh, which is a copy of the figurehead of th wooden battleship Delaware built in 1819. Also, on display were two jet aircrafts, a Skyhawk bomber and a Phantom fighter. The group saw the beautiful chapel and below the chapel they saw the tomb of John Paul Jones, which was surrounded by his sword and other mementos. The museum at the Academy contained more than 30,000 items among which was the first globe ever made. One of the groups was even lucky enough to see the Supt. of the Academy and the top man in the class of 1970. After the group left the Academy, they had lunch at Jonas Green Park, which overlooked the Potomac River. The group concluded the day with a tour of the Zoo. All had a most enjoyable and interesting day.

Here is a news release from Bob Perodie and Curtis Mast announcing the up-coming 20th anniversary field day at the Front Royal Beef Cattle Research Station.
A field day will be held at the Beef Cattle Research Statio'n here July 10 to make public results of over 20 years of cattle breeding research.
Several long-range breeding projects were started when the station came into being in 1949. They were designed to determine what sefectlbh''methods'offeted the best breeding progress.
The late Dr. C. M. Kincaid and Dr. R. C. Carter, professor of animal science at Virginia Tech, were instrumental in designing this research. Carter will present results of outcrossing bulls from Front Royal lines on commercial herds.
