Sees Mixed Views

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. A day on which everyone eligible should exercise the privilege to vote. Year after year, the political scene has been changing, and this election is no exception.

Senator Harry F. Byrd, a long time Democrat and senior senator from Virginia, has declared himself an Independent and is campaigning in „ this manner, seeking the vote of the conservative faction which has backed the Byrds for years.

Opposing Sen. Byrd are Republican Ray Garland and Democrat George Rawlingss, who locally have little audible support. Only Tuesday will tell what the silent majority will do.

Democratic candidate Murat Williams of Madison and Republican candidate J. Kenneth Robinson of Winchester are vying for the Congressional seat in the Seventh District left vacant when John O. Marsh Jr. of Strasburg declined to seek reelection.

According to a Republican spokesman, a survey in Rappahannock County disclosed 30 percent backing Williams and 20 percent on the Robinson band wagon; however, the other fifty percent declined to say or were undecided. Many of the conservative faction, long time Democrats in Rappahannock, who have been friends of Robinson in the apple industry over the years, will vote for him and are openly campaigning.

A community Hallow’een Party will be held In Flint Hill «t th< fire hall on Saturday night, October 31. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue until 9. Children up to 12 years of age attend in costume and compete in the costume contest which will be judged at 7 p.m. A variety of games will provide entertainment and refreshments will be served. A door prize as well as other prizes will be awarded. Everyone in that area is invited. There is no admission.
