Editor: Will the proposed heavy duty power line improve the looks of our County? This is a quiet, lovely rural county with no crowded towns, no industrial smokestacks and no railroads. This is why people are buying property here and the land value has risen. Rappahannock County is considered by many one of the most beautiful and desirable spots in the Washington, D. C.—Metropolitan area. Those who live here, visit here, and travel through will agree. The Potomac Edison Power Company has made an application to the Rappahannock County Zoning Board to build a transmission line from. Boston Sub Station through Rappahannock County at the Riverton Plant. I understand that this will be a two-pole wide heavy duty line, which is of no comparison to existing power lines in the County.
There are a lot of questions which should be on the minds of many Rappahannock residents. Will this type power line increase the value of our land? Will it be an eyesore spoiling the view ‘ through our mountains, hills and valleys? How will it look crossing our modem four-lane highway near Massies Comer? Could this line be installed underground? What benefit will it be to our County?
These are just a few of the questions, and there are many more that should be discussed during the public hearing on November 4 at 10 a.m. in the County Court House in Washington. All persons are urged to attend this hearing and express their views.
