night of His betray He blessed the bread and gave it to the twelve. Bread has been glorified in poetry and song. One poet says to ‘touch bread reverently, it is the gift of God’. In his Rubaiyat Omar has this to say‘ A Book of Verses underneath the Bough, A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread-and Thou Beside me singing in the WildernessOh, Wilderness were Paradise enow!” Another poet thinks love and friendship are more important than these things that Omar thought essential.-It means more “Than shelter and bread and wine; For shelter is gone when the night is o’er, And bread lasts only a day, But the memory of your hand in mine Will live in my heart always.”
