Park Facilities
Closing for Winter
Shenandoah National Park facilities are being closed for the winter, with the exception of a portion of Big Meadows Campground, according to Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins. Entrance stations and all other campgrounds were closed yesterday, although the two Visitor Centers at Dickey Ridge and at Big Meadows will remain open for another week. Available at Big Meadows Campground will be a winterized comfort station and a frost free hydrant. Reservations for campsites cannot be made. A camping fee of $2.00 per night per site will be charged unless the camper has a National Parklands Passport, which will reduce the fee by $1.00.
Open shelters are available for use throughout the year. Closed cabins along the Appalachian Trail are fully equipped, except for food, and must be reserved through the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, 1718 N. Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. 20036.
