An era ends in February when production of Linotype machines ceases in the United States. The development of computerdirected photographic and electronic printing equipment has led ttFlfewer orders for the machine that once revolutionized printing. As an example, type being set for this paper has advanced from linotype through three separate kinds of electronic equipment since 1962.
