Mergenthaler demonstrated his Linotype machine in 1884. Tw< years later an improved mode was installed at the New Yorl Tribune, the first newspaper to b< set by Linotype.
Today, more than 900 language and dialects around the world ar set by Linotype. Parts for th thousands of machines, siil clattering away will continue to b made in plants overseas.
