Seeks Re-Election
Del. D. French Slaughter, Jr., representing Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Orange announces his candidacy for reelection to the House of Delegates subject to Democratic Primary on June 8.
Del. Slaughter was first elected to the House in 1957. He is a member of the Committees on Appropriations, Agriculture, Privileges and Elections, and Nominations and Confirmations of which he is the chairman. He has been Chairman of the Commission on Vocational Education 1962-64 and Vice-Chairman of the Commission on Public Education 195862, which made a study of teacher training and curriculum for the public schools.
Legislation he has sponsored and which has been enacted into law include the Community College Act of 1966, Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1964, provisions for heavier penalties for persons convicted of multiple serious traffic violations and for Dersons convicted of drivine while their licenses are revoked, and the measure allowing past records of convicted drivers to be available to the jury prior to sentencing.
In announcing, Del. Slaughter said he is continuing to work for highway improvements in this area.
