Just a few odds and ends on grafting, soil samples, beef cattle marketing and dogwoods.
George Williams, V.P.I. Fruit Specialist, will demonstrate T-bud and whip grafting next Tuesday, 1 p.ift. at Ned Johnson’s orchard in Sperryville. If you want to practice, bring a sharp knife. All other materials will be furnished.
Since the big thaw, soil samples have been pouring in at the rate of 50-75 a week. Evidently, the same thing has been happening throughout the state as the V.P.I. soils laboratory has piled up a three week backlog. The way the season is progressing three weeks is just too long to wait to apply fertilizer on hay and pasture land. Advise making an educated guess and going ahead. Sure wish there was some way we could encourage more people' to take their soil samples in October, November and early December. Then they would be already to roll come the Spring rush season.
The Farm Bureau Organization is sponsoring an open meeting for all beef cattle producers next Monday, 7:30 p.m. at the County Court House. Exploring new methods of marketing beef cattle will be the subject.
