This is a quote I’ve had in my scrapbook for a long time; “Love is like measles, you never have it real bad but once in a lifetime; and the later in life you have it the ■worse it is.”
It is said that measles sometimes settles in some part of its victim, causing lasting impairment to that part. Can the same be true of love? If so, it is better to have a ‘case’ of love late in life? If it settled in the heart and caused irreducible pain, that would be a point in favor of the one who loved late; the suffering wouldn’t last so long.
Once in awhile one of my readers will ask if I am referring to my self. Well, yes, I fell in love late in life. Does it hurt? Well, yes to that too, but at times there is a joy that makes it all worthwhile. I’ve had several mild cases before, but they didn’t build up an immunity against this last one. Last one? Let’s hope so; I don’t think I am strong enough for another ‘case.’ Christ said we are to love one another. He didn’t say we should let love get out of bounds, it is a great emotion as long as we can teep it under control.
