Also on tour will be The Meadows owned by Willis Snell and located in Washington, Va. The first log cabin was built around 1750. It is now the centei ot the house with the lower room being used as a bar. The old house has been remodeled, and added to by a series of builders and owners and throughout has managed to maintain its integrity. Judge James Strother and his family owned the place in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
The third house open for the Tour is Duchesse Farm owned by Mr. and Mrs. David Fannon, situated on Route 211, about four miles west of Amissville. The original house was built in 1803 for the daughter of Mr. Anderson who owned the valley made by the meanderings of Battle Run. Ad ditions were made around 1853 of the front rooms and hall, with its charming oak and walnut balustered stairway. Later this wing was gutted by a fire and was rebuilt by Colonel duChane whc blocked up the old fireplaces and saw to it that there was an exil from the house in every direction
