For Rappahannock County armers as a whole, the past year vas a better one, financially, han it was for farmers in most sections of the country. Despite the fact that prices for arm products and livestock emained at a low level, many ocal farmers succeeded in costing their gross receipts ibove those of the last few years, rotal farm income in the area was 1262,000 greater than it was three ^ears ago. The fact that there was a gain of any size, in view of the unfavorable economic situation recently, is considered an achievement of sorts. What made it possible were better-than-usual weather conditions and improved operating efficiency. With more mechanical equipment at their command, they were able to get higher yields per acre. In contrast to the results reported for the local area, farmers and ranchers in many parts of the nation suffered a drop in gross income. The findings, covering every county, are based upon data assembled by the Standard Rate and Data Service.
