The Rappahannock County High School cross country team wil travel to Mt. Jackson Saturday October 9 for a meet with th< Stonewall Jackson team which begins at 10:30 a.m. On Tuesday October 12, the Panthers will go t( Front Royal for a contest wit! Randolph-Macon Academy. This meet is scheduled for 4:15 p.m

The RCHS Panthers will bt hosts for the first meet on horn* ground on Wednesday, October 2< with Warren County High Schoo as the opponent. This meet begin; at 4:15 p.m. and will be on tlx course on the Ian Pryde farm jusi across the highway from the loca high school grounds. The public is invited to attend.

Library Conference

Mrs. James P. Jamieson of Sperryville, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rappahannock County Library, and Mrs. B. M. Miller of Washington, Treasurer, attended a Conference on Public Library Service, called by Gov. Linwood Holton which was held Monday at the Richmond Colisseum. The Statewide Conference was an effort on the Governor’s part to determine how the information needs of the Commonwealth can best be met. The 1,500 persons attending showed great interest in improving the situation which a speaker called “a serious crisis...in library development”...They were urged to contact their representatives in the General Assembly for support of a $4.3 million appropriation the Library Board is seeking for needed development.

In, addition to Gov. Holton the group was addressed by Virginia’s state librarian, Randolph W. Church, Virginius Dabney, retired editor of the Richmond Dispatch and former Library Board member and Richmond TimesDispatch Washington correspondent Charles R. McDowell, Jr.

Mrs. Virginius R. Shackelford, jr., of Culpeper, Chairman of the State Library Board, presided at the morning session and introduced the Governor.

Also of interest was a multiscreen, audio-visual presentation depicting Virginia and its libraries.
