I am unable to answer the R.L.E.P. questionnaire since the people in my district dictate the way I vote on issues.

Next week there will be many a mama cow walking the fence line searching the wood lot or silhouetted against the cloudy sky bellowing for her lost young-un, for her calf will have gone to market, and by the middle of the week may be well on his way to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, or just across the road on a neighboring farm.

If you are in the market for replacement heifers or just starting in the cow-calf business, I recommend that you look over the 1300 calves that will be offered for sale in the Rappahannock Feeder Calf Sale next Tuesday in Front Royal at 1 p.m. There will be approximately 700 steers and 600 heifers. 1100 of these will be Angus. Most of the rest will be beef cross breeds plus about 40 head of good Herefords. Our producers have been working hard to secure herd bulls with size, stretch and growthiness, and culling hard on the bottom end of the cow herd. The results are showing up strong in this years’ sale offering.
