THE Supervisors who almost wasn’t — Newbill Miller of Hampton District, who was re-elected by one vote in a recount — has been re-elected to serve as chairman of the Rappahannock Board.
Miller was elected, and procedural rules for the new Board were established at an organizational meeting held January 6. It was not only the first meeting of the new term, but it was the very first meeting for some of the members who are serving for the first time following the November election.
Present were J. Richard Latham, Jackson District; Herbert Foster, Wakefield; H.B. Wood Jr., Stonewall-Hawthorne; and Miller, Mrs. Betty Coates of Piedmont District was absent from the session.
E.M. Jones, Clerk, took the chair to preside while a chairman and vice chairman were chosen. Supervisor Foster nominated Miller and the motion received a second from Latham. :
Though it was not a recorded vote, the selection appeared to be unanimous, and this was the only nomination made. It is possible to select a chairman yearly; however, the group chose to name Miller chairman for the full fouryear terig.
Latham was chosen vice chairman with the nomination being made by Foster and seconded by Wood.
