Virginia’s 1971 traffic deaths dropped to 1,206 from the 1,231 of 1970 to mark the first time two consecutive annual decreases have been achieved since 1960, reports Col. H. W. Burgess, Superintendent of State Police.
Noting that there were I, 304 deaths in 1969, Col. Burgess said that the 1971 decrease, although relatively small, becomes significant in the light of the very substantial one in 1970 and a rise of well above six percent in traffic volumes.
Colonel Burgess added
