TO OFFICIALS in Prince William County, “the fastest growing county in the Washington metropolitan area and the eighth in the nation,” the beautiful Rappahannock River is mainly just a potential source of water, for drinking or flushing.
How this position is rationalized is revealed in Prince William’s official statement before the December 15 hearing held at Fredericksburg by the Corps Of Engineers.
An overwhelming percentage of those attending the hearing, according to several first-hand reports, was dead against construction of a dam on the Rappahannock at Salem Church.
But the Corps of Engineers wants the ddm, and Congressman William Scott wants a dam, and Prince William County certainly wants it — to provide water for continued growth.
