10 percent of the total kill. By contrast, the year before 80 deer were taken the last day and 25 percent of the total were does.

The year before that, when 340 deer were taken, over half were checked in the last day and over a third of the total were females.

SNOW OR the lack of it is a factor in the county’s late season deer kill — apparently a big factor. A heavy snow on Christmas two years ago and snow again last year on New Year’s Day seem to be partly responsible for the high percentages the last few days those years. By the same token with no late season snow the opposite was true this year.^

If the lack of snow did hold the total kill down, another new factor was involved this year which partially offset it, the factor being the new two per season bag limit. Twenty deer were checked by hunters using the Number 2 license tab.
