THE CANOE CRUISERS Association of the greater Washington area and three members of the American Youth Hostel have again contributed a day to cleaning up one of the streams in the area.
On Sunday, April 9, these groups joined forces to pick up trash on the badly abused Hughes River ■between Route 231 and the low water bridge below Slate Mills.
Mrs Sally Grey, organizer of the clean up, reported that 24 people in 13 boats plus the three A.Y.H. members were involved. As last year when this group worked the Thornton River, they picked up trash in the stream and as much as possible on the banks within sight of the stream.
Local people contributing to this project included the landowners along the route: Lee Payne, Charlie Racer, Joe Starry and Joe Powers who donated bags and trucks and who hauled the trash.
