A special word of appreciation goes to Oscar Dodson of Slate Mills who stayed with the canoists along the entire route to load, unload and haul the many cans, bottles, tires, clothes, text books and “you name it” found along the way.
PEOPLE IN this area should be very grateful for those persons like Sally and Tom Grey and all who joined them. They clean up a mess which is definitely not of their making. They use the stream maybe twice a year at the most; yet they have an appreciation for a clean stream and are willing to devote the time to make them clean, or at least cleaner. Unfortunately, there are those locally who have little or no interest in cleaning up and in fact continue to throw trash along the road and into the stream; yet these are the ones who see it every day.
As Joe Starry said, “It’s too bad all of us -aren’t as good citizens as these people,” the Canoe Cruis-c ers and Youth Hostel members. □
