Miss Judith Kay Lillard of College Park, Md. became the bride of Gary Britton Smith of Silver Spring, Md. in a double ring ceremony on Saturday, June 3, 1972 at the Flint Hill United Methodist Church.
The Rev. A.D. Goodson, pastor of the Front Royal United Church and former pastor at Flint Hill, performed the ceremony at eleven o’clock, and Mrs. Welsey Harris of Washington, Va. was organist.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Carson Lillard of Flint Hill and the bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Britton E. Smith ofTempe, Ariz.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her floor length gown of ivory silk organza was designed with a sheer Empire bodice and a high necked yoke of reembroidered Alencon lace which was repeated in bands on the full bishop sleeves and A-line skirt. A deep lace edged panel bordered the full flowing attached chapel train.
A cap of matching lace held the full short veil of silk illusion which was scattered with lace appliques. She carried a cascade of cream glammellias.
Miss Jean Lillard was maid of honor for her sister. Her long gown of powder blue crepe had an Empire bodice and full circular skirt. The neckline, cuffs and waistline were accented with a deeper blue and she carried a nosegay of blue marguertie daisies.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Thomas Lillard of Manassas, sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Raymond Budnick of Clifton, N. J. and Miss Diane Miller of Richmond. Their gowns fashioned like that of the honor attendant were of reverse contrast, dark blue gowns with powder blue accents and all wore powder blue picture hats with velvet streamers of a deeper shade. Their flowers were also nosegays of blue marguerite daisies.
James Roach of College Park, Md. was best man and ushers were John Hannon of Laurel, Md., David Hoffman of Rockville, Md. and Calvin Phillips, Alexandria.
A reception followed at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, Front Royal. The three-tiered wedding cake was served by Mrs. James Lillard Jr. of Warrenton, sister-in-law of the bride. Mrs. Floyd Banaski of Annapolis, Md. tended the guest book and Misses Debra and Diane Lillard of Front Royal, nieces of the bride, served punch.
The bride’s mother chose a street length dress of pale green silk shantung with a jacket and matching accessories. Her corsage was white orchids.
