became assistant to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was then trans-. ferred to Hawaii to act as Deputy Chief of Staff USARPAC. He received his appointment as Brigadier General on August 1, 1960 and assumed duties as Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration and Assistant Chief of Staff, Headquarters, U. S. Army, Pacific.
He was promoted to Major General in 1962 and two years later assumed command of the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. The following year he became Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters, U. S. Army, Europe, in Heidelberg.
Returning to Washington in ‘67 and was promoted to Lieutenant General in August of that year, and assumed the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense. He became the Directorate of Military
