John Miller asked a question from the audience: “What do they mean by true value?”
“True value,” replied Newbill Miller, “is the exact value based on true sales. This puts Rappahannock in a bad situation, because we have a limited amount of land for sale, and the supply and demand pressures brings higher than normal sales values. Madison and Rockingham Counties are being hit real hard by this, too.”
Judge William F. Moffett Jr., also commenting from the audience, thought that basing the formula on “real estate sales alone is ridiculous.”
Wood re-emphasized his point about questioning the > very standards themselves. “Some may be costly and impractical for a rural county like ours,” he noted.
