RAPPAHANNOCK’S Board of Supervisors is on record as opposing any effort to extend the powers of regional planning districts beyond a strictly advisory role. „
A motion to this effect at the February meeting was made by Supervisor J.R. Latham, and it passed unanimously. * Latham explained that he was disturbed by the socalled Ad Hoc Hahn Commission report to the Governor* which recommends broader powers for regional planning districts — possibly even authority to borrow money and raise revenues.
“I think we ought to oppose the report specifically in s'everal places, but I am particularly opposed to anything which would assign to the regional planning district anything other than advisory duties,” agreed Chairman Newbill Miller. “That is the most pressing thing, I think.”
Added Mrs. Betty Coates: “I,read the report and I was shocked. It’s the poorest written thing I ever saw. And for a college professor...”
