THE GENERAL Assembly is now in the last week of the 1973 session.
It is difficult to report anything definite about the more controversial bills that are being voted upon during the last week because these bills are so frequently amended during their course through the legislature.
The fate of the parimutuel bill will be decided by the General Laws Committee of the House of Delegates or by the full House of Delegates this week.
In its present form the bill would not become law until approved by the people in a state-wide referendum as well as a referendum in the county where pari-mutuel betting would be allowed and the counties and cities adjoining that county.
It is possible that this bill y will be amended in several respects before the final vote. Many members of the legislature have seribus reservations about this bill but there is less inclination to vote against a statewide referendum on the issue.
